Visa Launches Local E-Commerce Payment Processing in Saudi Arabia

tech news

Global payments technology leader Visa has enabled domestic e-commerce transaction processing within Saudi Arabia.

Global payments giant Visa has officially enabled local e-commerce payment processing for merchants and financial service providers across Saudi Arabia.

The new capability comes following certification for the Saudi Central Bank’s (SAMA) New E-commerce Payments Interface, allowing online businesses operating in the Kingdom to process transactions locally while complying fully with national financial regulations.

The capability is powered by the Visa Acceptance Platform, which was deployed on Saudi Arabia’s local cloud infrastructure. The setup integrates payment processing, fraud prevention, digital tokenization and customer authentication into a single locally hosted system.

By handling transactions locally, the platform reduces setup complexity for online businesses and payment providers while providing faster, smoother checkout experiences for everyday online shoppers.

The platform supports a wide range of popular online checkout features tailored to local consumer preferences. Key features supported by the system include full integration with mada, Saudi Arabia’s national debit card network, allowing seamless online shopping for local consumers.

It also enables card-on-file storage and digital wallet compatibility for quick, one-click checkouts and mobile payments, alongside automated recurring payment support designed for subscription services, digital memberships and routine utility billings.

Visa executives noted that localizing payment processing is an important step in supporting Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing digital economy and aligning with the Kingdom’s broader digital transformation goals under Vision 2030.
