Drivers union AUATON praises vehicle company Moove for gifting ₦35 billion worth of cars free to drivers as it leaves Nigeria.

The Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria(AUATON) has publicly praised vehicle financing company Moove for giving full car ownership free of charge to thousands of local drivers as the firm ends its business in Nigeria.

The official statement from the transport union was shared on October 8, 2026, after Moove announced it is shutting down its Nigerian operations.

Under this historic farewell gesture, Moove is transferring full legal ownership of vehicles worth ₦35 billion directly to eligible drivers currently operating them across Lagos and other cities.

Effective from October 1, 2026, drivers taking part in the company’s drive-to-own program no longer have to pay any daily money or complete remaining loan balances.

By cancelling all outstanding car debt, the mobility firm is giving thousands of working drivers complete ownership of their vehicles, allowing them to keep all daily earnings from ride hailing apps like Uber, Bolt, and inDrive.

Giving cars free of charge to working drivers is a huge financial relief for thousands of families struggling under high fuel prices and heavy vehicle maintenance costs in Nigeria.

In past years, many drivers spent up to 6 years making heavy daily repayments, leaving them with little money for food, family health, or house rent.

By turning working drivers into full car owners overnight without asking for more money, the company is securing permanent financial independence for thousands of hardworking citizens.

Expressing deep gratitude to the company’s Nigerian founders and teams who started the business in Lagos six years ago, leadership at the transport union celebrated the huge win for local workers.

Congratulating drivers who fought through tough economic conditions over the years, official union representatives stated, “For years, you navigated harsh economic terrains, rising fuel costs, and relentless daily targets. Your patience and hard work have finally converted into lifelong equity. You have officially moved from being lessees to being car owners, and the Union celebrates this monumental win with you”.

Highlighting how the generous car handover turns daily drivers into independent business owners while setting a great example for corporate acts of appreciation, the union praised the founders for taking care of local workers.

Union leaders added that “instead of leaving our people stranded, these proud Nigerian funders have turned thousands of everyday drivers into immediate, independent asset owners”.

Moove’s exit marks the end of a major chapter that began in Lagos in 2020. Co-founder Ladi Delano explained that while Moove is expanding its global driver and driverless vehicle network across 29 international cities, Nigeria will always remain where the company started.

As the company completes vehicle paper transfers across Lagos, thousands of e-hailing drivers are now working as proud, debt-free car owners.
