Lagos app drivers end their 4 day strike, while union leaders instruct all members to dump the inDrive platform over low earnings.
App-based commercial drivers under the Lagos State Council of the Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria have officially called off their 4 day strike action across Lagos.
The formal decision to end the road protest was announced on October 15, 2026, allowing thousands of registered e-hailing drivers to turn their phone apps back on and resume carrying passengers.
Under the official directive issued by union leaders, drivers can now return to work on major platforms like Bolt, but the union has instructed all members to stop using and dump the inDrive mobile application completely.
The union explained that while four days off the road successfully showed the power of driver unity, inDrive has continued to allow passengers to offer extremely low ride fares that leave drivers in severe financial loss.
Because drivers pay for expensive petrol, buy car tyres, fix broken car parts, and pay vehicle loan debt out of their daily earnings, taking very low trip fares on inDrive leaves drivers with almost nothing to take home to their families.
By boycotting inDrive completely while resuming work on fairer platforms, the transport union aims to protect driver income and force app companies to respect basic worker dignity.
Ending the strike action is very important for everyday commuters, office workers, market sellers, and hospital visitors who rely on phone app rides every day across Lagos.
During the 4 days when drivers parked their cars, thousands of citizens waited for hours on busy roads, walked long distances under the hot sun, or paid high prices to take regular yellow buses.
Bringing drivers back to the road makes daily city travel easy again for families and business owners. At the same time, asking drivers to dump unfair apps helps ensure that hard working drivers earn enough money to keep their vehicles safe, buy quality petrol, and care for their loved ones.
Explaining why the union decided to stop the four-day road protest after reviewing the results of the strike, executive union leadership commended drivers for standing together in unity.
Announcing the immediate end of the road shutdown, State Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the union, Comrade Jaiyesimi Azeez, stated that “following our assessment of the situation, I hereby announce that the ongoing industrial action and shutdown are officially called off, effective immediately. Drivers may resume their normal activities, while remaining attentive to further official union communications”.
Expressing deep pride in how drivers showed courage and solidarity throughout the four days off the road, union leadership praised the collective strength of all members.
Comrade Jaiyesimi Azeez added that “their sacrifice, solidarity, courage and commitment have demonstrated the power of collective action”.
The union is actively exploring local driver-owned platforms that offer fair commission rates and transparent pricing.
As drivers return to Lagos roads, transport unions, app companies, and government regulators are preparing for round-table talks next week to fix low fares, reduce high commission fees, and build a fair ride-hailing business for everyone.
