Nigerian fintech Kredete acquires a South African Crypto Assets Service Provider license to expand stablecoin cross-border payments.
Kredete has officially acquired an authorized business entity holding a Crypto Assets Service Provider license in South Africa.
The major regulatory acquisition announcement was confirmed on October 7, 2026, marking a significant step forward in the company’s plan to expand stablecoin and cross-border payment operations across the continent.
The acquired operational approval gives Kredete official authorization to process legal cryptocurrency transactions, run stablecoin payment rails, and handle digital asset transfers within South Africa’s regulated financial market.
Founded by tech entrepreneur Adeola Adedewe, the fintech firm operates a specialized international money transfer platform that allows everyday individuals, small businesses, and commercial banks to convert local cash, send digital currencies, and settle international bills across borders.
By acquiring a licensed South African entity, Kredete can now connect its cross-border stablecoin infrastructure directly to South Africa’s formal banking ecosystem, bringing fast and cheap payment services to traders, small business owners, and diaspora families.
Obtaining a recognized crypto operating license in South Africa is very important for everyday citizens and cross-border merchants who frequently send money between African nations.
Sending traditional bank transfers across African borders has historically been very expensive, taking several business days to arrive while losing value through high bank fees and poor currency conversion rates.
Using stablecoins, digital tokens pegged directly to the value of global foreign currencies like the United States dollar, allows money to travel instantly across borders with very low transfer charges.
Having full regulatory approval ensures that user funds are safe, legally protected, and monitored by national financial authorities.

Explaining how expanding licensed digital payment options directly solves long-standing cross-border transfer challenges for growing African businesses and consumers, executive leadership at Kredete highlighted the core focus guiding the company’s international growth.
Kredete representatives emphasized that “the move comes as South Africa develops a more formal regulatory framework for cryptocurrency and digital asset businesses, making it one of the more established markets for crypto-related financial services in Africa”.
Highlighting how building licensed financial bridges across key economic hubs empowers everyday traders to move funds safely, company founders noted that securing official licenses builds long-term trust with global partners and local users.
Kredete management stated that “the company now supports payments to more than 60 countries and has raised $24.75 million in total funding”, reinforcing its commitment to connecting African markets with reliable payment infrastructure.
South Africa’s Financial Sector Conduct Authority continues to build one of the clearest legal frameworks for crypto assets on the continent.
With a total raised capital of nearly twenty-five million dollars and an active footprint spanning over sixty nations, Kredete’s new license positioning sets the stage for faster, cheaper, and safer cross-border payments for millions of users across Southern Africa and beyond.
