A recent Mastercard Report has revealed that 79% of young consumers across surveyed regions utilize artificial intelligence tools to research products, compare prices and make purchasing decisions.
A new report published by Mastercard reveals that artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming everyday consumer behavior, with 79% of young people and 70% of parents utilizing AI tools to research products over the past year.
The study, titled A Short History of the Future of Shopping and Payments, surveyed 13,000 pairs of teenagers aged 13 to 18 and their parents across 13 global markets. The findings highlight a generational shift in how consumers discover goods, compare options and approach future purchasing decisions.
According to the research, AI has firmly established itself as a regular part of modern consumer routines. Approximately 62% of young people and 49% of parents use AI for product research at least once a month.
Furthermore, 61% of young people expressed a willingness to use a comprehensive AI assistant to manage the entire shopping journey on their behalf. Demonstrating a clear awareness of shifting technological trends, 67% of parents believe the younger generation will naturally be more comfortable relying on AI for commerce than adults are today.

The report explores the rise of “agentic commerce,” a phase where artificial intelligence evolves from a basic research tool into an active assistant capable of executing tasks. Instead of just helping users find items or compare prices, future AI agents could handle complex workflows like comparing travel arrangements or organizing regular grocery baskets.
As technology moves closer to completing transactions automatically, the study emphasizes that establishing secure trust frameworks, clear user boundaries and reliable payment infrastructures will be vital to supporting the next evolution of digital commerce.
