MTN Nigeria pays out 545.89 billion Naira to shareholders after making strong profits in the first half of the year.
A major telecommunications firm operating in the country, MTN Nigeria, has shared part of its company profits with shareholders by distributing 545.89 billion Naira.
The payout program reached its final stage on Monday, September 7, 2026, as money transfers were sent directly to the bank accounts of registered share owners.
People who bought shares in the telecom company received 26 Naira for every single share unit they own in the business.
The profit distribution took place across Nigeria, where hundreds of thousands of everyday citizens, local investors, and pension fund manager groups hold ownership stakes in the network company.
This huge payout comes after the company recorded impressive financial performance in the first six months of the year, generating over 2.9 trillion Naira in total revenue and making a net profit of over 707 billion Naira.
The reason why the company made this massive payout is to fulfill its official promise to reward people who invested their hard earned money into buying company shares.
In business language, when a company makes big profits, it shares part of that gain with its owners as an interim dividend.
Under local financial laws, ten percent of the total payout is withheld by the federal government as tax, meaning the government receives about 54.5 billion Naira while individual investors receive 23 Naira and 40 Kobo per share directly into their bank accounts.
This financial boost was made possible because millions of Nigerians spent more money on phone calls, mobile data subscriptions, and digital bank transfers throughout the year.
Data network usage grew rapidly as over 55 million active internet subscribers used more network bandwidth for work, streaming, and daily communication.
Despite rising costs of running power generators for cell towers and buying equipment, the network operator managed to grow its earnings significantly compared to the previous year.

Explaining the board’s decision to approve the huge money payout, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola, stated, “Buoyed by our performance, the Board has approved an interim dividend of 26 Naira per share, creating value for the hundreds of thousands of Nigerians who own MTN Nigeria directly, and the millions more who participate through pension and institutional funds.”
Expressing gratitude to those who put money into the business, he added, “To our shareholders, thank you for your confidence. It inspires ours.”
This massive profit payout shows that the telecommunication industry remains one of the strongest sectors in the national economy.
As bank transfers arrive in investors’ accounts, shareholders are celebrating their financial gains, while everyday phone users hope the company continues spending money on building stronger cell towers to make calls and internet browsing faster across the country.
