South Sudan regulators have signed a landmark strategic agreement designed to strengthen the nation’s burgeoning fintech ecosystem and bolster overall cybersecurity defenses.

South Sudan has taken a major step toward securing its digital financial ecosystem as key regulatory bodies joined forces to bridge telecommunications oversight and central banking supervision.

A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Gieth Kon Mathiang, Director-General of the National Communication Authority (NCA) and Addis Ababa Othow, Governor of the Bank of South Sudan. The landmark agreement is designed to streamline coordination between telecom regulation and monetary policy as the country rapidly modernizes its financial services sector.

As mobile money and digital banking expand across South Sudan, the intersection of telecommunications and financial infrastructure has become critical.

Under the new framework, the two regulatory institutions will collaborate closely to build robust cybersecurity networks, protect consumers from online threats, and foster healthy competition among local fintech innovators. Furthermore, the partnership establishes dedicated channels for real-time data sharing and cross-sector enforcement, ensuring that digital transactions remain safe, secure and reliable for everyday users.
