The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), in collaboration with the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, has officially launched a 90-day Child Online Protection Campaign at Kololo Secondary School.

The government of Uganda has launched a dedicated Child Online Protection Campaign designed to foster a safer more responsible digital environment for children across the country.

The initiative addresses the growing need to safeguard young internet users from online risks while ensuring they continue to benefit from digital education and modern technology.

Speaking at the official launch event, Dr. Aminah Zawedde, Permanent Secretary at Uganda’s Ministry of ICT and National Guidance emphasized that child protection initiatives must evolve alongside the fast-changing digital ecosystem.

As mobile connectivity expands and more young citizens gain access to connected devices, the initiative focuses on proactive risk prevention rather than restricting internet access. By introducing structured safety frameworks, the government aims to keep pace with modern technology trends while shielding children from digital hazards such as online exploitation, cyberbullying and inappropriate content.

A central goal of the nationwide campaign is to build practical skills and knowledge among children, parents and educators.

Rather than shielding children entirely from digital platforms, the campaign highlights the importance of empowering young users to recognize, manage and report online threats independently. Through community outreach and educational resources, the initiative seeks to promote responsible digital citizenship, ensuring that Ugandan youth can safely explore internet tools for learning and development without compromising their safety.
