Electric vehicle company Spiro and ESP launched a program to empower 5,000 women across Africa through clean electric motorbikes and business training.

Spiro has partnered with Entrepreneurial Solutions Partners to launch a major new program aimed at empowering  5,000 women across Africa through clean transport and small business training.

The impactful sustainable development announcement was publicly released on October 28, 2026, marking an important step toward gender equality in the continent’s transport sector.

Under this new initiative, known as the Women in E-Mobility program, female participants receive professional motorcycle riding lessons, road safety education, financial literacy training, and direct access to affordable electric motorbikes.

The project begins with an initial pilot phase in Rwanda targeting 50 women before expanding across other African countries where Spiro operates, with a final goal of reaching 5,000 women by the year 2030.

Traditionally, transport and delivery sectors across the continent have been dominated by men, with women accounting for only a small percentage of commercial riders.

To solve this imbalance, the program provides participants with lease-to-own financing options for electric motorbikes, access to fast battery-swapping stations, and connections to local delivery and ride-hailing platforms to help them secure steady daily income.

Creating job opportunities in clean energy transport and modern technology is very important for everyday families, local market traders, young women, and working communities across Africa.

In many towns and cities, finding reliable ways to earn a steady daily income can be very difficult for mothers and young female entrepreneurs who lack access to affordable vehicle financing and business training.

When clean transport companies provide electric motorbikes and teach practical driving and money management skills, ordinary women can start their own delivery businesses, support their households, and build financial independence.

Expanding green energy jobs helps communities grow while keeping local air clean and free from harmful fuel smoke.

Explaining how introducing electric motorbikes and clean energy solutions creates valuable economic opportunities for women across the continent, top corporate leadership shared inspiring thoughts on the new project.

Highlighting the company’s commitment to building a more inclusive future for Africa’s transport industry, Group CEO of Spiro, Anant Badjatya, stated that “electric mobility is creating new economic opportunities across Africa, and we want more women to be part of this transformation”.

Emphasizing that simply handing over a vehicle is never enough to guarantee lasting business success without proper training and ongoing community backing, project partners detailed their comprehensive support strategy.

Pointing out the vital role that financial education and customer access play in building sustainable local businesses, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Entrepreneurial Solutions Partners, Eric Kacou, added that “for women entrepreneurs, having access to a motorcycle is only the first step, and building a successful business also requires skills, financing, customers and ongoing support”.

Women across the region are eager to join the training program. As the clean energy pilot rolls out in East Africa, communities look forward to seeing more female entrepreneurs leading the future of sustainable transport.
