Kenya’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Authority is actively pushing for stronger collaboration between national and county governments to accelerate the country’s ongoing digital transformation agenda.

The Kenya ICT Authority has reinforced its push for deeper cooperation between national and county governments to accelerate digital transformation, expand high-speed internet connectivity and streamline public services across the country.

The renewed focus was a primary agenda item at the Second ICT Sector Intergovernmental Consultative Forum held at the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha, bringing together top government officials, county leaders, and key technology stakeholders.

The high-level meeting co-chaired by Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy William Kabogo and Council of Governors ICT Committee Chairperson Wesley Rotich addressed critical roadblocks that often slow down tech projects at the local level.

Discussions centered on reducing the cost of laying fiber-optic cables, standardizing wayleave fees across different counties, and seamlessly embedding modern digital infrastructure into regional development plans. Officials also evaluated broader frameworks including the National AI Agenda, the draft National Digital Public Infrastructure Roadmap and the ongoing implementation of the Kenya National Digital Master Plan 2022–2032.

To ensure accountability and measurable growth across all regions, the forum examined the proposed County Digital Maturity Index. This specialized evaluation tool is designed to help individual counties assess their digital progress, spot capacity gaps and guide strategic investments.

Ultimately, the collaborative meetings concluded with the signing of official resolutions and clear implementation timelines. The core objective of these joint efforts is to translate high-level policy commitments into tangible benefits delivering faster connectivity, accessible digital public services and inclusive economic opportunities across all 47 of Kenya’s counties.
