Spiro Academy, the training arm of electric mobility company Spiro has launched its first all-women cohort in Uganda under its IoT and Electric Mobility Skills Programme.
Spiro Academy, the educational arm of electric mobility company Spiro has expanded its technical training footprint in Uganda by launching its first-ever all-women training cohort focused on the Internet of Things (IoT) and embedded systems.
Organized in partnership with Groundbreaker Talents in Seeta, the program delivers practical, hands-on technology instruction to young women from local communities. The curriculum introduces participants to hardware sensors, connected software systems and data transmission networks, equipping them with the technical skills needed to build careers across Uganda’s expanding digital economy.
The IoT training initiative connects directly to Spiro’s broader corporate mission as a leading operator of electric motorbikes and battery-swapping infrastructure across Africa.
Modern electric vehicles rely heavily on IoT systems to track battery performance, monitor real-time vehicle location, manage swap stations and balance energy grids. By training young women in sensor integration and software-hardware communication, Spiro Academy is building a specialized local talent pipeline capable of developing, maintaining, and innovating electric mobility technology within Uganda.

In addition to expanding hardware skills, the initiative addresses the underrepresentation of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines across the region.
Participants in the Seeta cohort gain direct experience working with electronic circuits, hardware microcontrollers, and cloud-connected diagnostics. Program leads highlight that providing accessible, supportive technical training builds professional confidence and opens clear career pathways for young women in technical engineering, smart infrastructure and digital logistics.
By combining vocational skilling with clean transportation, Spiro Academy aims to support both Uganda’s national digital transformation goals and the continent’s broader transition toward sustainable, technology-driven urban mobility.
