Airtel Money Kenya has launched a KES 37 million corporate social responsibility project aimed at improving educational infrastructure in Baringo County.

Airtel Money Kenya operating through the Airtel Africa Foundation and in partnership with international development organization ChildFund Kenya has officially launched a KES 37 million community infrastructure initiative in Marigat, Baringo County.

Executed under the “Building Brighter Futures” initiative, the groundbreaking ceremony marks the commencement of targeted construction and renovation projects designed to upgrade educational facilities, expand clean water access and improve health standards for vulnerable school children. The Marigat project directly supports over 1,500 learners enrolled at the Marigat Integrated Day and Boarding Primary School and the Marigat Special School for the Visually Impaired.

The multi-million shilling investment targets critical structural needs across both beneficiary educational institutions to create a safer and more inclusive environment for students.

Under the infrastructure plan, the project will fund the construction of new classrooms, a boys’ dormitory and a 30-point handwashing station alongside comprehensive renovations to existing library facilities. To bridge the local digital divide and expose students to technology early in their learning journey, the initiative will also build and fully equip a dedicated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory. Additionally, the project incorporates clean water infrastructure including extended distribution pipelines, solar-powered water pumping systems and storage facilities paired with gender-segregated, disability-friendly sanitation blocks to ensure proper hygiene for both learners and teaching staff.

The Baringo groundbreaking represents the initial phase of a broader multi-county partnership between the Airtel Africa Foundation and ChildFund Kenya which aims to improve learning conditions for more than 2,000 students across Kenya’s remote and underserved public schools.

Beyond Baringo County, the joint program will roll out structural upgrades at the Garissa School for the Deaf in Garissa County and the Catholic Integrated Primary and Junior School in Wajir County. Speaking at the groundbreaking event, representatives from Airtel Money Kenya and ChildFund Kenya highlighted that providing modern classrooms, safe drinking water and digital learning tools removes physical barriers to school attendance, ensuring children living with disabilities and those in remote areas receive equal educational opportunities.
