Meta reveals new smart glasses and lightweight VR spectacles that let you use artificial intelligence and see digital screens without typing on a phone.

The big American social media company Meta, which owns Facebook and WhatsApp, revealed a brand new type of glasses that let people use computer tools directly in front of their eyes.

Company boss Mark Zuckerberg showed the new devices to the public at his annual technology conference, Meta Connect, on September 23, 2026.

The product launch took place live at Meta’s headquarters in California, USA, while millions watched online from around the world.

Tech experts and people who love phones gathered to see how the company wants to replace heavy laptops and handheld smartphones with simple eyewear.

By bringing these new devices to the market, Meta wants to make internet tools, maps, games, and computer helpers as easy to wear as a simple pair of daily prescription glasses or sunglasses.

During the launch presentation, Mark Zuckerberg showed off two main kinds of glasses for different daily needs. The first product is a new pair of lightweight Virtual Reality glasses priced at $1,290, which projects computer images and internet screens right in front of the wearer’s view without needing big, heavy plastic helmets.

The second product is a pair of camera-free smart glasses built with an AI helper named Muse AI that talks directly into your ear.

Explaining why the company built glasses without cameras this time, Meta leadership addressed privacy complaints from people who fear being recorded secretly in public places.

By removing the camera, people can wear the glasses inside private rooms, banks, and offices without making others feel uncomfortable or afraid of secret video recording.

Users can talk to the smart assistant inside the glasses to get instant answers, play music, translate languages, and remember daily tasks.

Speaking about this big step during his keynote speech on stage, Mark Zuckerberg explained that smart glasses are the next major way human beings will interact with computers.

He said, “Smart glasses are going to be the main way that we interact with AI, and eventually they are going to replace our phones for a lot of the things that we do throughout the day.”

Meta is investing billions of dollars to lead the global tech market in smart wearables. Industry analysts note that while these high tech spectacles are still expensive for many everyday households, making camera free smart glasses helps solve big privacy concerns and moves Africa and the rest of the world closer to a future where people navigate daily life hands-free without staring down at a phone screen.
