MTN Eswatini and Lubane SACCO launch a 5 year device loan program giving cooperative members easy access to smartphones and data packages.

MTN Eswatini has signed a major 5 year agreement with Lubane Savings and Credit Co-operative Society to help everyday cooperative members buy modern smartphones through easy monthly loan payments.

The strategic partnership was officially signed and launched on October 3, 2026, during a ceremony held in Ezulwini.

Under this new device loan arrangement, eligible members of Lubane SACCO can pick up brand new smartphones directly from MTN Eswatini along with special discounted internet data packages.

Instead of paying the total price of a new phone all at once, the cooperative pays for the device up front and collects small monthly repayments directly from the member’s account over time.

The program starts first with Lubane members, with plans to open the same loan opportunity to other credit cooperatives across the country in the future.

Helping cooperative members acquire smartphones easily removes a major financial barrier for thousands of workers, farmers, and small traders in Eswatini who cannot afford to buy modern phones in one cash payment.

Without a smartphone, everyday citizens struggle to send digital payments, access online bank services, sell goods on the internet, read educational books, or reach emergency family help quickly.

Combining simple cooperative loans with phone sales brings modern internet technology directly into the hands of ordinary working families.

Expressing deep appreciation for the shared effort that made the device loan initiative possible, the Executive Chairman representing the Lubane Cooperative highlighted the practical benefits created for every member.

He noted that the joint effort demonstrates “the value of working together to turn ideas into practical solutions that directly benefit members,” while emphasizing that getting a smartphone gives workers “a gateway to communication, mobile financial services, business opportunities, information, education and other digital platforms.”

Highlighting how combining mobile connectivity with cooperative credit services helps citizens grow, leadership from both organizations noted that the partnership goes far beyond selling mobile phones.

Representatives explained that the program is designed to combine digital access with everyday financial tools, giving people in local communities a practical way to participate in the growing online economy without taking on stressful debt.

MTN Eswatini Chief Executive Officer Jerry Soko and Lubane SACCO Chief Executive Officer Gugu Vilakati officially signed the landmark 5 year agreement together.

As the device loan roll-out gets underway across Ezulwini and surrounding communities, cooperative members can now walk into partner centers to receive smartphones and stay connected to modern digital tools.
