The NCC warns phone dealers and importers to verify all SIM-enabled devices or risk having non-compliant gadgets blocked from networks.

The Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC) has issued a strict warning to all manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retail dealers of SIM-enabled gadgets across the country.

The official regulatory directive was publicly announced on October 20, 2026, reminding business owners of their legal duties to sell only verified equipment.

Under this strict regulatory enforcement, anyone importing, assembling, or selling mobile phones, computer tablets, payment machines, and internet routers must ensure their goods have official Type Approval from the commission.

The regulatory body is using advanced technology systems to monitor devices and check their unique identity numbers before they reach retail shops.

Business owners who fail to follow these rules and stock unverified gadgets will face serious penalties. The commission noted that any device failing to meet the required safety and network standards will be completely blocked from connecting to mobile telecommunications networks in the country.

While existing phones already connected to networks before the new rules have been cleared automatically, new imports must strictly pass verification tests.

Making sure that every phone and gadget sold in local markets meets proper government standards is very important for everyday buyers, shop owners, and families across Nigeria.

In the past, unsuspecting citizens often spent their hard-earned money buying cheap, substandard, or fake phones that easily broke down, leaked personal data, or caused network call failures.

When regulatory bodies force dealers to check every device before selling it, ordinary customers are protected from fraud and lose less money on bad products.

Furthermore, stopping unauthorized gadgets helps keep local mobile networks fast, safe, and reliable for everyone making phone calls or sending mobile money transfers.

Emphasizing that businesses must follow established laws or face severe network blocks on their imported goods, the commission urged all dealers to check their stock. R

eassuring compliant traders that the rules ensure a fair marketplace, official statements added that “upon full implementation, devices that fail to meet the applicable requirements may be restricted from accessing Nigerian mobile telecommunications networks, in accordance with the approved enforcement framework”.

Dealers are rushing to check their warehouse supplies. As the regulatory body steps up nationwide inspections, phone buyers and retail shop owners are advised to confirm device approval status before paying for new phones.
