Electric vehicle company Spiro launches its first 100 electric motorcycles in Ghana alongside fast two-minute battery-swapping stations.
Pan-African electric vehicle company Spiro has officially launched its first one hundred electric motorcycles in Ghana.
The major green transport rollout took place on October 20, 2026, in the capital city of Accra, marking the company’s official entry into the West African nation’s growing transport market.
Under this new electric vehicle rollout, the company introduced its special Ekon 450 M1 V3 electric motorcycle model alongside a network of quick battery-swapping stations.
Instead of waiting hours plugged into an electric socket to recharge, riders can simply visit a local swap station, take out their empty battery, and insert a fully charged one in just two minutes.
The company designed this swapping system to help commercial delivery riders and Okada transport workers save up to two dollars every day on fuel expenses compared to regular petrol-powered motorcycles.
To celebrate the grand entry, riders drove a colorful convoy of 100 electric bikes through the streets of Accra, gave test rides to local transport workers, and handed over the very first set of keys to new owners.
Switching from petrol fuel to electric motorcycles is very important for everyday commercial riders, delivery workers, market traders, and ordinary citizens across Africa.
In recent years, high petrol pump prices have made it very difficult for everyday bike riders to make a good daily profit and feed their families.
When transport companies introduce electric bikes that use affordable battery-swapping stations, hardworking riders can lower their daily running costs, protect the environment from toxic vehicle smoke, and make a stable income.
Furthermore, clean electric vehicles help reduce the continent’s heavy reliance on imported fossil fuels, creating a cleaner and quieter future for everyone.
Explaining how introducing affordable electric bikes and fast battery-swapping spots helps solve the biggest problems faced by commercial riders, top leadership at the firm shared their excitement about the new market.
Highlighting the company’s goal to make clean transport available to everyone across the continent, Chief Executive Officer of Mobility at Spiro, Kaushik Burman, stated that “with the launch of the Ekon 450 M1 V3, we are bringing a solution that addresses two key barriers to adoption: operating costs and access to charging infrastructure”.
Reiterating that launching the first 100 bikes is only the beginning of a massive plan to transform public transport across the region, company management looked forward to future growth. Kaushik Burman added that “our first 100 motorcycles mark the beginning of our ambition to make electric mobility accessible at scale across Ghana”.
Spiro has already deployed over one hundred and fifty-six thousand electric bikes across seven African countries. As the new battery-swapping stations open up across Accra, commercial riders in Ghana are embracing clean, affordable, and reliable electric travel.
