Truecaller launches a free Scam Checker tool in Nigeria to help people easily spot fake callers, fraud messages, and dangerous links.
Truecaller has launched a brand new, free security tool called Scam Checker to protect everyday mobile phone users from online fraudsters and fake bank callers across Nigeria.
The official rollout of this new protective feature went live on September 28, 2026, making it available inside the updated Truecaller mobile application for Android and iPhone devices.
The new Scam Checker feature acts like a smart digital security guard right inside a user’s smartphone. Whenever someone receives a suspicious phone call from an unknown number, a doubtful text message claiming you won a lot of money, or a strange website link sent via SMS or social media, they can copy and paste it into the Truecaller search box.
The smart tool instantly scans global fraud databases and tells the phone owner whether the number or link is safe or if it belongs to criminals trying to steal personal bank details and hard earned savings.
By introducing this simple tool, Truecaller aims to stop the massive wave of phone scams and digital fraud targeting millions of everyday people, market traders, workers, and elderly citizens across
African nations. Fraudsters frequently send trick messages claiming to come from official banks, tax offices, mobile network operators, or emergency relief funds to fool innocent people into giving away secret account PINs and money.
The new Scam Checker gives users a quick, free way to double-check every message and call before taking any action or clicking dangerous links.
Explaining the urgent need for simple tools that protect citizens from smart online criminals, Rishit Jhunjhunwala, who serves as the Managing Director of India and Chief Product Officer at Truecaller, shared the core mission guiding the company’s continuous product design.
He explained, “Fraud is evolving rapidly, with scammers continuously devising new methods to deceive people. Our goal with Scam Checker is to provide a single, easy to use search tool that empowers users to verify suspicious numbers, links, or text messages before taking action.”

Company representatives noted, “Scam Checker is built to give people complete peace of mind in an era where digital deception is everywhere. By combining community feedback with intelligent scanning, we make sure our users can navigate the digital world safely without fear of losing their money.”
Nigeria remains one of the top countries where people receive unwanted scam calls and fake text messages every single day.
By providing a free, one stop tool that checks suspicious numbers and internet links in seconds, Truecaller gives millions of African smartphone owners a simple shield to protect their money and stay safe online.
