LG Electronics promises 5 years of free security updates and strong privacy protection for Smart TV users across households in Nigeria.
LG has promised to give Nigerian families better viewing experiences, stronger data privacy, and regular software protection on all its modern Smart TVs.
The official announcement was released on September 28, 2026, as more households across West Africa buy connected televisions to stream internet videos, play video games, and plug in smart home devices.
The technology giant explained that its modern televisions are built to automatically detect nearby devices, including game consoles, internet decoders, music players, and smart home appliances.
By connecting all these devices easily inside one screen, families can enjoy smooth entertainment without struggling with complicated wires or difficult button setups.
To protect users from online hackers, LG also promised that eligible television models will receive free security software updates for up to five years from the release date of their webOS operating system.
LG is focusing on strong security because modern televisions now connect directly to home Wi-Fi networks and collect basic information to help users find their favorite shows.
In many Nigerian homes, people use smart televisions for online movie applications, live sports games, family photos, and voice searches.
When televisions connect to the internet, users need guaranteed protection so that strangers cannot access personal details, watch household habits, or target family members with unwanted computer ads.
Explaining why protecting customer information is essential for modern home entertainment, Choong-Bae Seok, who serves as a senior executive at LG Electronics, shared the core principle guiding the company’s new television design.

He said, “By combining industry leading innovation with strong security protections, transparent privacy practices, and user-controlled settings, LG aims to help Nigerian families get the very best from their Smart TV experience.”
Adding details on how the company guards its smart screens against malicious computer viruses and hidden bugs, technical leaders from LG explained that independent security researchers help test their systems regularly.
Officials confirmed that LG operates a special global research program to fix system weaknesses before bad actors can exploit them, while assuring customers that information collected for device connections “is used to support connectivity and is not used for household profiling or targeted advertising without additional consent.”
Smart screen adoption is growing rapidly across urban centers in Africa. By offering five years of software safety updates, easy voice controls, and simple settings that parents can control, LG gives everyday Nigerian consumers a safe and simple way to enjoy modern digital living inside their home parlors.
