Tanzanian health tech startup Medikea raises $1.2 million in pre-seed funding to expand its clinic network and digital app.

Tanzanian health technology startup Medikea has officially secured $1.2 million in a pre-seed funding round.

The corporate investment announcement was publicly shared on October 26, 2026, marking a major milestone for healthcare innovation in East Africa.

Under this newly closed investment round, the healthcare startup received financial backing from several prominent venture capital funds and development investors, including Baobab Network, Catalyst Fund, develoPPP Ventures, Madica, Impacc, Hustle Fund, O’Shaughnessy Ventures, Madiro, and private angel investors.

The fresh capital will be used to scale up business operations, develop new digital products, and open new medical specialist services.

Medikea operates a unique hybrid healthcare model that combines a mobile phone application for booking doctor visits with physical clinics, medicine pharmacies, and testing laboratories on the ground.

The company is opening two new medical clinics in the Tanzanian cities of Arusha and Morogoro, bringing its total network to four clinics.

Over the next 12 months, the startup aims to provide medical care to more than 100,000 patients and expand its footprint to ten clinics across Tanzania by the end of 2027.

Improving access to affordable medical clinics and fast healthcare services is very important for everyday families, working parents, and rural communities across Africa.

In many developing regions, regular citizens struggle to visit public hospitals because of long waiting queues, medicine shortages, and high costs charged by traditional private clinics.

When technology startups build clean local clinics and connect patients directly to doctors through mobile phone apps, ordinary people can receive fast medical checkups and buy cheap prescription medicines without breaking their household budgets.

Supporting innovative health companies ensures that more citizens enjoy healthy lives and reliable medical care close to their neighborhoods.

Explaining why building physical clinics alongside digital technology creates a stronger foundation than simply launching software on top of broken systems, the co-founder shared his vision with investors.

Highlighting the company’s deliberate strategy to control its own medical facilities and keep prices low for everyday patients, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Medikea, Dr. Elvis Silayo, stated that “building this way is harder, and we chose it deliberately”.

Emphasizing that fixing the core delivery system allows the company to offer high-quality medical services at a fraction of traditional private hospital costs, Dr. Elvis Silayo added that “if you layer technology on top of a broken system, you are digitising inefficiency; you inherit someone else’s costs and someone else’s quality problems, and you can’t scale past them”.

Investors are showing strong confidence in African healthcare innovations. As Medikea opens its new clinics and expands its digital platform across Tanzania, patients look forward to faster, cheaper, and more reliable medical care.
